Talk of the Town: Who's Who in Iraq, Syria conflicts with Ali Younes, Ray Hanania 09-26-14
The Editors of The Arab Daily News discuss the various factions and political forces involved in the wars and violence taking place in Iraq and Syria. Who's who in the conflict? Younes and Hanania discuss the regime of dictator Bashar al-Assad, as well as the growth of ISIL (Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, also called ISIS Islamic State in Iraq and Syria). President Barack Obama has launched bombing assaults of ISIL and al-Qaeda targets in Iraq and in Syria, but not coordinating with Syria's dictator Assad.
Who supports ISIL, who supports Assad and who supports the Syrian Freedom Fighters, which the United States was initially reluctant to arm? Hanania and Younes also discuss the role of Egypt and Jordan's King Abdullah.

Holy Land Ecumenical Foundation President Sir Rateb Rabie discusses the challenges facing Christians in the Middle East. He talks about the anti-Christian views of Republican Texas Senator Ted Cruz at a recent conference at the so-called "In Defense of Christians" conference held in Washington D.C. earlier in the month. Rabie also noted that his protest and the protest of other Arab Christians was not just against the extremism of the right or the extremist pro-Israel movement, but also a firm statement in defense of Muslims against rightwing Christian fanaticism.

Rasoul talks about the issues and the importance of American Arabs engaging in politics. He also discusses how anti-Arab racism and hate were used int he final days of his campaign by his opponent who libelously accused him of being associated with al-Qaeda and Islamic extremists. Despite the attack, Rasoul was easily elected.
4:30 pm Hanania expresses his views on the firing of Steven Salaita and the role of University of Illinois Board Chairman Christopher Kennedy calling for Kennedy's firing by Gov. Pat Quinn. Only one trustee at the UIUC Board, James Montgomery, voted to honor the job offer that was denied to Salaita over his criticism, posted on his Twitter account, against the government of Israel.
4:50 pm Hanania interviews the President of the Holy Land Ecumenical Foundation Sir Rateb Rabie about the appearance of Texas Senator Ted Cruz at a so-called conference on Middle East Christians. Cruz viciously attacked Arab Christians when some in the audience booed his assertions that criticism of Israel is anti-Semitism. Eron Henry of the Baptist World Alliance discusses fundraising efforts to help Christians who are being targeted by religious extremists in Iraq and in Syria. Henry, during an interview with Talk of the Town radio Friday August 29, 2014, said that the group has raised $20,000 so far and is continuing to raise money. Henry said that the BWA not only helps Christians but also Muslims who are in need in the Middle East. He said that the BWA is also raising funds for 300 Christian Families and 1,000 Muslim Families in the Gaza Strip who have been targeted by Israel's brutal military oppression.
